first experiments with structures, shapes and surfaces

The idea of the project is to determine different surfaces and textures with the machine and explore it through zoomed scanning/photographing and sound recording. The derived aesthetics are all unique but come together through cercotain characteristics. Such as transparency, gleam, robustness, rigidity and colour. The process of capturing the variety of surfaces created a certain abstraction of the objects. Each scan of a surface created an abstract unique surface and yet it was possible to find similarities within. Different qualities were observed: textured stripes, uneven transparent surfaces, depth of a surface, colours being created through a transparent surface and surface that lies beneath. Through the two different ways of recording the mix of textiles, silicon and solid glass objects are all becoming abstracted from themselves. In a final documenting video the surfaces are being explained/shown and the viewer might understand what was being used. Through zoom photography there are certain qualities that unify very different materials that are not visible to the naked eye. A number of questions come up: Is there a person visible in the image? Is there a focus in the image? Where is a real shadow, where is it merely the surface or colour? In which image is it random, naturally placed, in which is it intentionally positioned? Which are pieces or images that fit into multiple categories?
